Socioeconomic Diversity

I found our lecture about Socioeconomic Diversity extremely relevant to my own life. I really found the fact that most arguments about money are not about the money itself but about the struggle between control, security, entertainment, and so on.

My boyfriend as of 2 months ago had a full time job that pretty much paid for everything we did as a couple. Golfing, nice diners, vacations, movies, and nice presents. However, in February he went away for training for the Air Force and when he got back he found out that he was laid off. As a result of him being laid off, our interactions on a daily basis have derastically changed, but ultimately in a good way. We went from focusing on really only enjoying ourselves we were out spending money, to being able to enjoy each others company when we do every day activies. Like cooking dinner, going for a walk (free and relaxing), or just watching a movie on tv. It really helped us to realize 1. that I didn't love him because he bought me nice things and took me nice places, and 2. that we can enjoy each other even when we aren't going out and spending money. As simple as it seems we've actually grown closer because he lost his job.
