My major is pre-nursing, so it really isn't related to counseling. So in class when Dr. Hollist says, "when you are working with families..." I usually have to change the situation a bit for it to relate to me. When we talked about single parent homes, I thought about all the additional stresses a single parent would have if their child was hospitalized. I also thought about the impact of a child whose single parent is hospitalized and as a nurse how I would have to interact with these patients. Also, when working with families of a different ethnicity it is important to be accepting of their culture.
